Cullen White, a strategic operations leader with more than 15 years of experience driving organizational transformation and social impact initiatives, has started as the University of Washington Center for an Informed Public’s new director of strategy and operations.
“The CIP is thrilled to have Cullen join our team, and welcome him back to UW,” said CIP director Emma Spiro, a UW Information School associate professor. “Cullen brings a wealth of experience and I am looking forward to working with him to shape the CIP moving forward.”
White, who started in his new role on January 6, most recently served as chief impact officer and chief operating officer at AnitaB.org, a global nonprofit advancing women and nonbinary individuals working in technology fields. He brings significant experience in program design and evaluation, having led major initiatives in computer science education at both Teach for America and Prince George’s County Public Schools in Maryland, where he focused on expanding access to technology education for students and communities historically excluded from the tech industry.
“I’ve been fortunate to develop as a leader in such unique organizations, across so many different contexts. I’m eager to apply that learning here at the Center for an Informed Public,” White said.
Before his work in tech education, White taught multiple subjects, including Spanish, government, and world history. During his undergraduate studies at the University of Washington, White served as president of the Associated Students of the University of Washington and received the Bonderman Fellowship. He also holds a master’s in teaching from American University in Washington, D.C.
“This feels like a homecoming. It’s exciting to be back at the UW, at one of the greatest institutions in the world, working with so many brilliant people at the Center and iSchool in pursuit of a mission that matters so much right now.” White said.
