Spiro, Starbird talk to Science magazine about COVID-19 misinformation

Center for an Informed Public researchers Emma Spiro and Kate Starbird talked to Science magazine about the epidemic of misinformation that’s accompanying the COVID-19 pandemic. In a Q&A published March 24, the researchers noted that many people who share false information are well-intentioned:

“For a lot of people, participation in the process is altruistic,” Starbird said. “We’re seeing that happen a lot in this current crisis as people pass along information because they think they can help their friends and family.”
