Center for an Informed Public Director Jevin West and faculty affiliate Carl Bergstrom went on NPR’s “Life Kit” podcast to share tips for spotting misinformation. West and Bergstrom teamed up at the University of Washington to create the “Calling Bullshit” course, which has been adopted by many other educators around the country.
West noted that social media platforms are ripe for misinformation because they incentivize it. “They don’t care about what you’re seeing. They don’t care if you’re watching a video that explains how the earth is flat. They only care that you’re on the platform. They just want your attention,” West said.
